About Ellora Caves

Ellora in Maharashtra, India, is one of the largest rock-cut monastery-temple cave complexes in the world, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, featuring Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monuments, and artwork, dating from the 600-1000 CE period.Cave 16, in particular, features the largest single monolithic rock excavation in the world, the Kailasha temple, a chariot shaped monument dedicated to Shiva. The Kailasha temple excavation also features the gods, goddesses, and mythologies found in Vaishnavism, Shaktism as well as relief panels summarizing the two major Hindu Epics.

Ellora caves are just 28 Kilometers (17 Miles) away from nearest Aurangabad railway station. Aurangabad Railway station is well connected to other major cities in India.

How to Reach Ellora by Bus

You can easily get bus to Ellora Caves from Central bus station or Cidco Bus station in Aurangabad. It will take around 45-50 minutes for you to reach Ajanta Caves from Aurangabad.

Best time to visit

July To February is the best time to visit Ellora Caves. This time period is Rainy and Winter season. If you visit Ellora during this period you get a good view of nature at best. If you don’t mind heat and temperature, then you can visit Ellora in off season too.
